As you well
know, this is not “my cup of tea” since it is out of my professional knowledge
so I am going to tell you about my experience studying pedagogy
.
Believe or
not, Pedagogy in English was not my first choice when making the decision of
majoring; before that I study Veterinary Medicine at Universidad Santo Tomas and
Business at Universidad Central. I did not succeed in any of both, I was very immature
and to be honest I did not know what I was doing with my life at all!
Nevertheless
I always liked English language, I was good at it at school so I decided to study
something related to the area. My first choice was not pedagogy but translation.
I studied that at Instituto Chileno Norteamericano and until now, I think it
was one of the best decisions I have made; I had excellent teachers, passionate,
full of knowledge and very demanding, most of them were adults or even old! I learned
a lot from all of them.
After I finished
my studies I realized that I needed to have a steady job since as a translator you
work as a freelancer. The institute had a covenant with Universidad Mayor so I
took advantage of it and I majored in pedagogy. I had several subjects, I loved
some of them but other ones, to be fair, I did not like them that much; however
that is part of any process of majoring.
I have to admit
I did not realize that I liked teaching until my practice, but today, without any doubts, I can say that I simply love it!
